Arrest made after scooter gets chop-shop treatment

From Local Sources

JASPER — An investigation into the theft earlier this month of a motorized scooter resulted in a Friday arrest.

The Jasper Police Department says the scooter was reported stolen Oct. 3. Investigators determined Zackary M. Gilbert, 25, 257 Brucke Strasse, had allegedly stolen the victim's scooter so he was taken into custody at 9:40 a.m. Friday.

Police say Gilbert disassembled the stolen scooter and used its parts for his scooter.

Gilbert was questioned and allegedly admitted to the allegation. He also claimed to have thrown remaining parts of the stolen scooter in a wooded area, police said.

Authorities booked Gilbert into the Dubois County Security Center at 10:49 a.m. Friday on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of theft.
