JASPER — A deputy responding to a Monday night report of a suspicious male outside a business south of Jasper ultimately placed the man under arrest.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 1200 block of South State Road 162 at 10:11 p.m. The deputy on the call found Roger R. Hutchinson, 40, Loogootee, on a sidewalk in front of a business with a backpack next to him and a phone charger plugged into a wall.
Also at the scene was a Ford passenger car with no visible registration.
Hutchinson, who told the deputy he had run out of gas, was found to be in possession of a glass smoking pipe with white residue and a small plastic bag containing a white, crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Authorities booked Hutchinson into the Dubois County Security Center at 11:24 p.m. on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia.
A Uebelhor & Sons wrecker assisted at the scene.
