Arrest follows report of possible impaired driver

From Local Sources

PATOKA LAKE — A call to authorities early Sunday reporting a possibly impaired driver all over the roadway resulted in an arrest in the northeast corner of the county.

The report at 12:27 a.m. resulted in a 12:57 a.m. traffic stop of a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by James C. Schildge, 37, 3307 Newton St., Jasper, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

The stop occurred at State Road 545 and County Road 720E west of Patoka Lake after a deputy allegedly observed Schildge fail to signal a turn. It was also reported that the truck had been driven in reverse in a zigzag pattern.

The sheriff’s department said Schildge’s blood alcohol content initially tested .19 percent on a portable breath test but he declined a blood draw.

Authorities booked Schildge into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:44 a.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated (test refusal).
