Arrest follows reckless driver report

JASPER — Police made a drug-related arrest after fielding a reckless driver complaint Thursday morning.
Jasper Police Department officers responding to the 8 a.m. complaint followed a Lincoln Continental into a Home Depot parking lot at 4250 N. Newton St. and contacted the driver, Jackson L. Deffendall, 43, Petersburg.
Police said Deffendall’s license was suspended and his vehicle had a false and fictitious registration. While inventorying the car, police report finding methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Deffendall was preliminarily charged with Level 5 felony dealing methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine, Level 6 felony unlawful possession of a syringe and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and driving while suspended (prior).
Authorities said Deffendall will be cited into court on the charges because of health reasons.
