HILLHAM — A call to authorities Friday afternoon reporting a possibly impaired driver eastbound on State Road 56 resulted in an arrest in the northeast corner of the county.
The report at 5:03 p.m. resulted in a Department of Natural Resources conservation officer stopping a 2009 Honda Accord that matched the vehicle description. The Honda’s driver, Aaron C. Smith, 45, 1326 Main St., Jasper, allegedly turned off State Road 56 onto a random driveway in the vicinity of Cuzco Road North, drove halfway up the lane and stopped.
Authorities report Smith’s blood alcohol content later tested .215% in a certified test at the Jasper Police Station.
Smith was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 7:13 p.m. on a preliminary Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated. The preliminary impaired driving charge was elevated to a felony because of a prior conviction for the offense within the last five years.
Authorities report Smith posted bond Saturday morning.
