Arrest follows leaving-the-scene report

BIRDSEYE — Police took a man into custody after responding to the report of a leaving the scene accident north of the Birdseye area Friday afternoon.
The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office was called at 4:39 p.m. to the report of a car wrecked in a field in the vicinity of county roads 175S and 1025E.
Deputies who were told the driver was seen walking away later located Brian K. Smith, 53, 10320 E. Maria Court, Celestine, at his residence.
Authorities booked Smith into the Dubois County Security Center at 7:15 p.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Smith was given a date to appear in court and was released Saturday morning.
