Area athletes highlight conference, state teamsDecember 5, 2018

Since the 2018 prep football season has come to a close in the state of Indiana, it’s time to take a look at which area athletes received honors for their play this past season.
Here’s a brief rundown of the Big Eight and Pocket Athletic area all-conference selections as well as players who were selected to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State teams.
Big Eight All-Conference
The Jasper football program was well represented on the Big Eight all-conference squad as there were five Wildcats named to the squad. Offensively, seniors Reece Milligan and Jadon Mehringer were selected while defensively seniors Isaac Bartley and Zach Flynn as well as junior Carson Park were also on the roster.
Milligan finished the 2018 regular season with a team-high 859 all-purpose yards and an area high 470 receiving yards. Milligan had seven touchdowns during the regular season (four rushing, three receiving).
Mehringer helped to anchor an offensive line that averaged 212 yards per game and a total of 1,908 yards during the regular season. Mehringer also had 10 and a half tackles on the defensive side of the ball as well as a sack.
Bartley recorded five interceptions during the regular season and returned three of them for touchdowns. He was also fourth on the team with 29 and a half tackles and also had 37 receiving yards and one touchdown from a reception.
Flynn was third on the Wildcats with 32 total tackles but led the way with 10 tackles for loss and six sacks. Flynn also had 156 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Park was Jasper’s second leading tackler with 34 and a half tackles and also recorded nine tackles for a loss along with two sacks.
PAC All-Conference Selections
Southridge, Forest Park and Heritage Hills were all well represented on the PAC all-conference roster with both all-conference selections as well as honorable mention representatives.
The Raiders all-conference selections were senior offensive lineman Matt Gentry (helped lead a unit that rushed for 3,797 yards this season), senior running back Tucker Schank (828 yards, 14 touchdowns), senior down lineman Wyatt Kramer (47 total tackles, five for loss), junior inside linebacker Cole Calvert (101 total tackles, two fumble recoveries), senior outside linebacker Logan Seger (team-best 116 total tackles, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries) and sophomore punter Chase Taylor (averaged 36.6 yards per punt, seven downed inside the 20-yard line). Calvert was also named the conference’s defensive captain.
Honorable mention selections were senior center Devin Murphy (anchor along the offensive line), senior kicker Jeovany Dubon (62-of-68 on PATs, 25 touchbacks) and sophomore quarterback Colson Montgomery (1,048 passing yards, 13 touchdowns).
Heritage Hills all-conference selections were junior center Spencer Vaal and junior offensive lineman Mark Doyle (helped block for a team that totaled 3,336 rushing yards and averaged 306 yards per game), junior running back Jacob Wetzel (717 rushing yards, eight touchdowns), senior kicker Carson Leibering (51-of-52 on PATs, perfect 5-of-5 on field goals including a 41-yarder), junior quarterback Cole Sigler (289 passing yards, 801 rushing yards), senior down lineman Aidian Rea (35 total tackles), senior inside linebacker Cade Jones (78 total tackles, two interceptions) and junior defensive back Kaden Feldpausch (eight pass deflections, three fumble recoveries). Sigler was also named the PAC’s overall MVP.
Honorable mention selections were senior offensive lineman Jordan Hitz, senior wide receiver/tight end Dakoda Ebert (110 yards, two touchdowns) and senior inside linebacker Kyndell Carter (48 total tackles, four sacks).
While Forest Park didn’t have any all-conference they did have three honorable mention selections — junior down lineman Gavin Knust (58 total tackles, six sacks), senior outside linebacker Gavin Pierce (57 total tackles) and junior running back Drew Day (612 rushing yards, five touchdowns).
The Indiana Football Coaches Association selects a junior and senior team for each of the six classes of Indiana football and there were several area players gracing those teams.
Area selections were — Southridge offensive lineman Matt Gentry (Class 2A senior team), Southridge running back Tucker Schank (Class 2A senior team), Southridge linebacker Cole Calvert (Class 2A junior team), Heritage Hills offensive lineman Mark Doyle (Class 3A junior team) and Heritage Hills defensive back Cole Sigler (Class 3A junior team).
