JASPER — Start this baseball season off right by visiting the historic Astra Theatre to view the 30th anniversary screening of the classic baseball movie “Major League” at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20.
The film, in which the teams’ owner and the players work against one another, is rated R.
General admission tickets are available at www.TheNextAct.org for $8. For a limited time, get a $2 discount per ticket by using the code “baseball” at checkout.
Starring Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen and Corbin Bernsen, the sports comedy film grossed nearly $50 million in its domestic release in 1989. Mental Floss says, “Although there have been hundreds of baseball movies over the years, few have resonated so strongly with fans and players alike, or had such an impact on the game itself.”
Attendees to the film are encouraged to wear attire representing their favorite baseball team to add to the festive mood of the event.
In addition to this movie screening, upcoming events at The Astra include comedian Costaki Economopoulos on April 12, musician Cris Jacobs on May 18, and the film “Mary Poppins” on June 1. Tickets and information on upcoming shows can be found at www.TheNextAct.org.
Newly renovated with 357 seats, the Astra has main level and balcony seating with a concessions stand offering snacks, local craft and domestic beer and wine.
