JASPER — Police arrested a man early Thursday, charging him with voyeurism, child exploitation, possession of child pornography and obstruction of justice.
The Jasper Police Department began an investigation late Wednesday after receiving a complaint alleging John T. Schneider, 57, 702 Mill St., Jasper, had taken photographs of a juvenile while she was showering.
During the investigation, Schneider was alleged to have told police he had washed his cellphone in a washing machine. Police who sought and secured a search warrant took a cellphone into evidence.
Authorities booked Schneider into the Dubois County Security Center at 3:17 a.m. He was then charged in Dubois Circuit Court with Level 5 felony counts of child exploitation and attempted child exploitation, plus Level 6 felony counts of possession of child pornography, obstruction of justice and voyeurism.
During an initial hearing Thursday, Schneider’s next court date was set for Jan. 27 and he was placed on pretrial release through Dubois County Community Corrections on the condition that he have no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16.
