Alarms bring out Jasper firefightersJanuary 15, 2019
From Local Sources
JASPER — Alarm activations took members of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department to a city company twice and senior apartments once in recent days but none of the runs involved an active fire.
The department was called to Sitex Corp., 218 Clay St., at 11:28 a.m. Friday and again at 8:40 a.m. Monday but both callouts involved a faulty alarm that is being investigated, according to Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang.
Two trucks responded Friday and one truck ventured out Monday on the brief runs.
Also, at 10:34 a.m. Saturday, the department answered a call at Das Leben Haus senior apartments, 111 W. 26th St.
Hochgesang said a resident in one of the independent-living apartments that are a part of Northwood Retirement Community had cooked some food that was left on the stove long enough to smoke and trigger an alarm.
There was no damage. Two trucks and 16 firefighters were on the scene 10 minutes.
