Alarm sounds at lumberyard’s dry kiln site

From Local Sources

HUNTINGBURG — Units of the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department responded early Tuesday morning when a smoke alarm activated at the Steinkamp Home Center’s dry kiln facility in its 1000 N. Chestnut St. lumberyard.

There was no fire associated with the 3:45 a.m. call, according to Assistant Chief Glen Kissling. Instead, he said, steam released by an open kiln door triggered a smoke sensor alarm.

Three trucks and 12 firefighters were on the scene 20 minutes.
