After canceled meeting, opinion about Senator changesJanuary 13, 2020
To the editor:
In Sept of 2019, I wrote and your paper published a glowing letter praising Senator Mike Braun for taking an interest in U.S. military combat vets. I did that because Braun called my family and promised to meet with us in our home about a veteran issue that is costing lives among Vietnam combat vets and our families.
Braun set the date for that meeting several weeks out, then he was a no show, with one of his staff calling my family less than an hour before the long scheduled meeting to say the Senator couldn't make it. We were told that the meeting would be rescheduled.
It was not ever rescheduled and the Senator and even his policy aides have become "unavailable" to our family.
We are hurt and saddened because we have information that could save lives and ameliorate suffering among Vietnam combat vets and our families and that is not an exaggeration. But, we are not at all surprised because this is exactly how warriors from the Vietnam war have been treated by our government ever since the war ended.
