Advance Care Planning session setJuly 31, 2019
JASPER — Advance Care Planning is about having conversations concerning your medical choices and their benefits and risks at the end of life.
It is important for people to state their wishes in case they are not able to make these decisions for themselves at some point in their future. ACP provides an avenue for individuals to take and maintain control over the healthcare decisions that impact their goals, values and beliefs. When these conversations are held far in advance of the approaching death, there is greater family satisfaction at the time of death and less unnecessary suffering from not knowing what their loved one wanted.
Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center is providing a free information session to help people know how to begin these conversations and how to put their desires in writing. They also will hear about the importance of selecting a person to speak for them if they become unable to speak for themselves.
This information session will be offered between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the Memorial Foundation and Health Ministry Office at 709 W. Ninth St. Contact Kathy Burton at 812-996-0329 or Sister Rose Mary Rexing at email@example.com to preregister.
