Activism topic for meeting of Democrats

Trish Whitcomb

Indianapolis Investment Banker Trish Whitcomb will be the featured speaker at a public dinner meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the Jasper Train Depot, sponsored by the Dubois County Democratic Party. The title of Whitcomb’s 7 p.m. speech is “Values, Rhetoric, and Organization — A Winning Formula for Activism.”

Whitcomb, a Seymour native and daughter of the late Republican Governor and Baton Death March hero Ed Whitcomb, is known nationally as the former campaign manager and administrative director for past Indiana State School Superintendent Glenda Ritz. In her work as an investment banker, Whitcomb has been involved in creating public-private partnerships to fund projects throughout the state and Southwestern Indiana.

Whitcomb coordinated then State Senator Mike Kendall’s U.S. Senate campaign in 1982, and formed The Environmental Rights Foundation with Kendall in 1992. Before working for Superintendent Ritz, she was president of Indiana Federation of Democratic Women. Whitcomb worked for Senator Birch Bayh in the 1970’s.

She helped develop and implement the Hoosier Family of Readers program, collaborated on policy development with the U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Indiana to combat sex abuse of school-age children and supervised implementation of the 21st Century Learning Centers grant. She also served as a member of the State Workforce Innovation Council, the Butler University College of Education Dean’s Advisory Council and board member of Youth Build Louisville.

This special event is free and open to the public. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Food and drink from the Dog Haus will be served.
