Accident results in OWI arrestApril 21, 2021

JASPER — A Jasper man was arrested for drunk driving following a Tuesday evening accident at the intersection of U.S. 231 and Indiana Street.
Oscar F. Delagado, 28, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under 18 years old, a Level 6 felony, operating a vehicle while intoxicated-endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C misdemeanor.
Jasper Police officers were called to U.S. 231 and Indiana Street at 6:34 p.m. for a three-vehicle accident. Police determined that the truck driven by Delgado failed to yield the right of way to a semi that was on U.S. 231 and driven by Randy Hammonds, 33, Christopher, Illinois. The semi hit the truck, causing the truck to spin and hit a truck driven by David Swarb, 59, Mill Creek, Oklahoma, that was stopped at the stop sign at First Avenue and U.S. 231, police reported.
Upon further investigation, police determined Delgado was driving under the influence of alcohol. Preliminary blood results showed Delgado's blood alcohol content was .173%, police said.
Delgado was arrested and lodged into the Dubois County Security Center.
The accident caused $10,000 in damages to Hammonds’ 2010 Kenworth Semi, $5,000 in damages to Delgado’s 2016 Chevy Colorado and $4,000 in damages to Swarb’s 2018 Chevy Silverado.
Jasper Police were assisted by the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department, Memorial Emergency Medical Services, Ruxer’s Wrecker Service and Sternberg’s Wrecker Service.
