JASPER — A Tuesday morning accident in Jasper ended in damage to two vehicles, a fire hydrant and utility pole.

Kenneth Lampert, 89, of Jasper, was traveling north on Mill Street and began to drift across the center line. William Combs, 25, of Loogootee, was driving on the other side of the road and attempted to move out of Lampert’s way. Lampert continued in the south lane, and the front left of his vehicle struck the right side of a trailer being towed by Combs. The trailer was then pushed into a guy-wire on the west side of the road.

Lampert then went off the west side of the roadway and struck a fire hydrant and utility pole owned by the City of Jasper. Damage to city property was estimated at $750. Damage to Lampert’s vehicle was estimated at $20,000, and damage to Combs’ trailer was $10,000.

Lampert suffered abrasions and reported a general complaint of pain. Memorial EMS was called to the scene, but treatment was declined.
