Accident leads to impaired driving accusation

FERDINAND — A Saturday evening accident in Ferdinand resulted in one of the motorists being accused of impaired driving.

An Indiana State Police trooper reports being called at 7:20 p.m. to assist the Ferdinand Police Department with a two-vehicle accident at Sixth and Main streets involving a 2013 Toyota RAV4 and a 1994 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Benjamin J. Watkins, 44, 412 E. Sixth St.

The trooper alleged Watkins failed field sobriety testing and had a blood alcohol content that tested .283 percent at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

Authorities booked Watkins into the Dubois County Security Center at 10:05 p.m. Saturday on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated. He posted bond early Sunday evening.
