ST. ANTHONY — A glance down at a cellphone reportedly factored into a Friday evening accident just west of St. Anthony.
Fiona E. Vonderheide, 16, Bristow, was eastbound on State Road 64 in a 2003 Toyota passenger car when the 7:43 p.m. mishap occurred west of Club Road, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Vonderheide told a deputy she had looked down at her phone for its GPS, which is when her car ran onto the rock shoulder at the location. The car came back onto the roadway for a short time before going off the south side of the highway again. It struck a ditch and rolled over one time, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Toyota stopped on its wheels facing southeast in a ditch.
Vonderheide declined to be transported for treatment.
Damage was estimated to have exceeded $5,000.
A Berg’s Garage wrecker towed the car.
