Accident ends in OWI and serious injury to passenger

JASPER — An early Saturday accident in Jasper ended with one man being arrested for OWI charges and his passenger left with serious injuries.
The Jasper Police Department and Memorial Hospital Ambulance Services were dispatched to a single vehicle accident into a tree on South Clay Street around 1 a.m. Officers found the driver, William Laswell, standing nearby.
Laswell, 28 of English, showed signs of intoxication and was transported to Memorial where he tested positive for methamphetamine and THC and had a .19 BAC.
The passenger, Aaron Ziegler of Dubois, was also transported to Memorial with head and spine injuries.
The vehicle was considered a total loss, and Laswell was charged with OWI, a Class C misdemeanor; OWI endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor; and OWI resulting in serious bodily injury of another person, a level 6 felony.
