Accident damages three vehicles

JASPER — A three-vehicle accident stopped traffic for almost an hour Monday evening on U.S. 231 near the road's intersection with Fourth Avenue/Wernsing Road.

The Jasper Police Department was called to the scene at 6:22 p.m. Officers arrived and investigated. Police determined that a juvenile driving a 2001 Dodge Ram north on U.S. 231 crossed the center line. The Dodge hit a southbound 2001 Freightliner that was pulling a 2000 box-style trailer and was driven by Jeremy Sherman, 44, of Peoria, Arizona, police reported. The collision caused the truck and trailer to jackknife and hit a 2020 GMC Sierra driven by Philip Schwenk, 39, of Jasper, police said.

Damages from the accident were estimated at $90,000 to the Freightliner and trailer, $20,000 to the GMC Sierra and $15,000 for the Dodge.
