50 Years: Alexander (Al) and Andrea Mihajlovits

Al and Andrea Mihajlovits of  Huntingburg are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary August 14, 1971. They were married in Vincennes, Indiana at First Presbyterian Church. Reverend Ted Turner and Father John Davidson officiated the double ring ceremony.

Attendants were Peggy Wilhite, maid of honor, sister of the bride, Vincennes (deceased), Gail Mitchell Frey, cousin of the bride, of Vincennes now Franklin, Tenn., Elaine Loesch Helderman of Vincennes,  Ann Weber Shive of Ft. Wayne, In. and Phyllis Powell of Indianapolis, In. The groomsmen were  Stephen Mihajlovits as best man, brother of the groom, Liverpool, N.Y., Gary Hutton, of New Albany, In.,(deceased), Steven Furnish of Henryville, In. , Anthony Gilberti of Syracuse, N.Y. (deceased) and Larry Rapert of Indianapolis, In.  Rod Hamm of Wheatland, In. and Tom Wilhite of Evansville, Indiana (cousins of the bride) seated the guests.

The Mihajlovits are the parents of Matthew Mihajlovits D.C., Bowling Green, Ky., Nicole Mihajlovits Stephens (Jason) of Newburgh, In.  and Natalie Mihajlovits Newell (Jarrod) of Carmi, Illinois.  Al and Andrea are the grandparents of five grandchildren, Cade, Avery, Connor, Ella, and Camden.

The couple met in 1969 at Indiana University while working on their degrees in education. Andrea retired in 2008 after teaching 2 years at North Knox School Corp. and 22 years at Southwest Dubois County School Corp. at the elementary level. Al retired in 2016 after teaching 1 year in Fulton N.Y. and 43 years at Southwest Dubois County School Corp. While at Southwest Dubois School Corp. he was a teacher at Southridge High School, Principal at the middle school, and wrestling coach at the Southridge H. S. for 20 years.

The couple is planning a fall trip to New England in the fall to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
