3 vehicles in bridge construction site mishap

JASPER — One of three vehicles involved in a Tuesday morning mishap at a bridge construction site south of Jasper was listed as a total loss.

Kenneth D. Korthaus, 19, Jasper, was driving a 2005 Dodge Durango on State Road 162 and had stopped at the Maltersville Bridge construction site south of Schnellville Road at the time of the 6:52 a.m. mishap, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy said Korthaus’ SUV was rear-ended by a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Timothy Fortwendel, 53, Evanston. The collision then sent the Korthaus Durango into the rear of a 2014 Mazda driven by Andrew M. Pund, 27, Ferdinand.

The Fortwendel Jetta was believed to be a total loss, according to the sheriff’s department. The damage to the Korthaus Durango’s front and rear bumpers and to the rear bumper of the Pund Mazda was estimated to have exceeded $5,000.
