FISHERS — Police say a motorist found a 3-foot-long alligator walking along Interstate 69 in central Indiana.
Fishers police spokesman Officer Tom Weger says a motorist reported the reptile Friday night and officers were able to locate it along the highway about 10 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
Weger tells The Indianapolis Star the alligator appeared to be in good shape but “was pretty dirty. It looked like it had been living in a mud pit.”
He says it appears to have been living in the wild for at least a few weeks.
Officers took the creature to a nearby reptile rescue center.
