2-year-old dies after being found inside vehicle

DALEVILLE — Authorities say a 2-year-old boy has died after being found unresponsive inside a vehicle parked outside his family’s apartment amid hot weather in central Indiana.

The Star Press reports Jaxon Stults was pronounced dead while being taken by ambulance from the scene Wednesday evening in Daleville.

An autopsy was planned Thursday to determine cause of death. Daleville Town Marshal James King and Zach Crouch, a Delaware County deputy coroner, both said the death was believed to be heat-related. The circumstances of how the boy ended up in the vehicle are under investigation.

The National Weather Service says high temperatures Wednesday in the Daleville area topped 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius) before cooling off later.
