JASPER — Two women arrested Tuesday afternoon by the Jasper Police Department for allegedly shoplifting more than $1,100 in clothing from the Walmart Supercenter, 4040 Newton St., promptly posted bond at the Dubois County Security Center.
Store personnel detained 25-year-old Bessy Lopez and 41-year-old Maria Ayala, who told authorities they both lived at an address on Ninth Street in Huntingburg, until police could make the 1 p.m. arrest.
Authorities said Ayala and Lopez worked together to steal $1,172.05 in merchandize. They placed clothing, adult and children’s shoes and undergarments in Walmart shopping bags, put them in their carts and tried to leave the store.
Both women were charged with Class D felony count of theft and were booked into the county security center at 3:25 p.m. They bonded out at 4:50 p.m.
