CRYSTAL — Two drivers were treated for injuries after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday evening east of Crystal.

Tyler K. Brown, 19, Corydon, was eastbound on State Road 56 in a 2004 Jeep Wrangler when the 6:18 p.m. accident occurred at County Road 900E, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said Brown crested a hill and initially failed to notice a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu stopped facing east as its driver, Charles N. Hale, 19, Jasper, waited to make a left turn onto County Road 900E.

Brown attempted to go around the Malibu to avoid a collision but his Jeep collided with the rear driver’s side of the car. Brown’s Jeep then continued east in the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound 2009 Subaru Forrester driven by Saylor R. Heath, 17, Dubois.

The Brown Wrangler then left the roadway, stopping on the south side of the highway.

The sheriff’s department said Brown suffered face cuts and Heath had minor cuts and scrapes on a knee. A hospital spokeswoman indicated both drivers were treated and released at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.

Total damage was estimated between $10,000 and $25,000, with the Brown Jeep and the Heath Subaru believed to be total losses.

The Dubois Volunteer Fire Depart’s first responders, Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services and a Sternberg Automotive Group wrecker assisted.
