From Local Sources
JASPER — Two people went to be medically checked after a truck-versus-car accident early Saturday afternoon at U.S. 231 and Common Drive.
Michael Songer, 58, Jasper, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the 12:41 p.m. accident, according to the Jasper Police Department.
Songer attempted a left turn onto Common Drive and, when he did, he became distracted and his truck traveled into the path of a northbound 2001 Chevrolet Impala driven by Douglas Duvall, 26, Loogootee, police said.
Kimberly Bromm, a 54-year-old passenger in the Songer truck, complained of chest pain and was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
Duvall also complained of chest pain and was transported by personal vehicle to be checked at the hospital.
A hospital spokeswoman said both vehicle occupants were treated and released.
The crash totaled both vehicles.
Police cited Songer for failing to yield the right of way.
Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services assisted.
