2 receive Philharmonic Club awards

Auditions for the Philharmonic Club’s outstanding vocal and instrumental student awards were held Sunday, March 17. Kylie Krempp won the award for outstanding vocalist, and Bennett Lang won the award for outstanding instrumentalist. The awards will be presented at the club’s annual guest night program on April 15.
Krempp, a senior at Jasper High School, won the outstanding vocal student award for her performance of “Lullaby” by Cyril Scott. She has been a cast member of many JHS musicals and plays, including “Cinderella,” “Jungle Book,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “High School Musical” and “Chaos in Fairytale Forest.” Krempp also has participated in other choir performances and talent shows. She has received superior ratings for performances at the Federation contests, and numerous gold ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association’s vocal solo and ensemble contests. Additionally, she is a member of the JHS Ambassador Choir, the Rhapsody Choir and serves as the president for the JHS Theatre. Krempp is the daughter of John and Shari Krempp. Her vocal instructor is Jennifer Derr.
Lang, son of John and Kari Lang, won the outstanding instrumental student award with his marimba performance of “Astral Dance” by Gordon Stout. He is a junior at JHS where he is a member of the marching, symphonic, jazz and pep bands. Lang plays various other percussion instruments including the drum set, in addition to the piano and bass guitar. He has been a member of the Junior All-State, All-State and All-State Honor bands as well as the All-State Percussion Ensemble. He has won many gold ratings at the state solo and ensemble contests. Lang’s music instructor is John Coller.
