October 7, 2020By The Associated Press
MOUNT VERNON — Two men were killed when an ultralight aircraft crashed Tuesday in southwestern Indiana, according to authorities.
The Posey County coroner's office identifies the victims as William Rohland, 75, of Garden Grove, California, and Michael Schlichtman, 57, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Authorities said an autopsy will be conducted Wednesday to determine the exact cause of death.
The crash occurred southwest of Evansville, said Posey County Sheriff Tom Latham. The aircraft the men were in took off from an airfield south of where the crash happened. Both men were still strapped into their seats when first responders arrived at the scene.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office were working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board to learn what led to the crash, Latham said.
