2 departments tackle I-64 median fire

FERDINAND — Two departments responded when a grass fire was reported Thursday afternoon along I-64 at the 65-mile marker.

Members of the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department and St. Meinrad Volunteer Fire Department responding to the 4:51 p.m. callout found about one-quarter acre of grass burning on the north side of the median.

Ferdinand’s department responded with four trucks and 16 firefighters, while St. Meinrad sent five trucks and 16 firefighters. The departments were on the scene for about 20 minutes.

The Ferdinand Police Department assisted.
