ANDREWS — Authorities say an 18-year-old man drowned in a state-run lake in northeastern Indiana after he began having trouble while swimming.
State conservation officers say emergency crews were called Sunday afternoon to the Salamonie Lake beach. WANE-TV and WPTA-TV report witnesses told officers that Jordan Laute of Marion swam past the roped barrier into deep water. By the time it appeared that Laute was in trouble, others weren’t able to locate him in the water.
Conservation officers using a sonar device found Laute in 9 feet of water nearly three hours later in the lake about 30 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.
