12U softball team takes home title

The 12U Southern Indiana Spikes softball team based out of Evanston capped off their 62-10-1 season with a NSA World Series championship this past week in Crown Point.

The team is comprised of athletes from Forest Park, Heritage Hills and Perry Central. The Spikes hit for a team average of .602 during the tournament and they only allowed four runs behind a strong defense and tremendous pitching from Jenna McDowell and Miram Gordon (Heritage Hills).

Leading the hit parade, was Mayci Litherland (Forest Park), Hadley Leibering (Heritage Hills), Olivia Susnjara (Heritage Hills), Jenna McDowell (Heritage Hills) and Avery Riley (Forest Park) as they all finished with batting averages over .650.

Team members were Josie Tuggle, Mia Sanford, Hadley Leibering, MaKenna Labhart, Rheyse Fleck, Miriam Gordon, Ali Gardner, Avery Riley, Olivia Susnjara, Jenna McDowell and Mayci Litherland. Coaches are Jason Susnjara, Ben Sanford, Jeff Litherland, Brandon Gordon and Steve Leibering.

Tryouts for the 2018-19 season will take place on Sunday, August 5 at 5th Street Park in Ferdinand from 4 to 6 p.m.
