FISHERS — An 18-year-old man faced preliminary charges of murder and involuntary manslaughter Monday following the first homicide in nearly 20 years in the northern Indianapolis suburb of Fishers.
Corbin Montgomery, 18, of Fishers was being held without bond at the Hamilton County Jail in Noblesville. Online jail records did not indicate whether he has an attorney.
Connor Shockley, 18, of Fishers was pronounced dead soon after medics arrived late Sunday at a home, Police Sgt. Tom Weger said.
Officers went to the home after a 911 call about a fight and found Shockley on the ground outside, Weger said. He did not provide circumstances surrounding the fight.
Investigators have the weapon believed used in the attack, he said.
Shockley had just graduated from Fishers High School and Montgomery had just graduated from Hamilton Southeastern High School.
“We’re so used to being in this safe community, and it’s very disturbing when something like this occurs in our own neighborhood,” said Suzanne Mandel, who lives near the slaying scene.
Fishers Town Manager Scott Fadness said residents should feel secure.
“I think we are still one of the safest communities in the country to live,” Fadness said. “I think for generations to come this will be a very safe community.”
Shockley’s slaying was the first homicide in Fishers, located just northeast of Indianapolis, since 1996, when a real estate agent was stabbed several times and had her skull crushed with a rock in a model home.
