JASPER — A motorist suffered injury when the SUV she was driving ran off a roadway and rolled late Friday morning east of Jasper.
Deborah A. Street, 58, Celestine, was westbound on State Road 164 in a 2000 Ford Explorer when the 11:38 a.m. accident occurred 3 miles east of Jasper, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Street told a deputy her SUV ran off the highway when she reached for an item. Her efforts to regain control were unsuccessful as the Explorer traveled down a steep embankment off the north side of the road, rolled and stopped on its wheels.
Police said Street, who complained of right arm pain, was able to get out of the vehicle and was assisted by a Celestine Volunteer Fire Department member who was in the area.
Street was transported by ambulance to receive treatment at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
The crash totaled the SUV.
A deputy ticketed Street for operating a vehicle without financial responsibility.
The Indiana State Police and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services also assisted.
