IRELAND — One driver was taken to be checked after a truck-versus-SUV collision Monday afternoon west of Ireland.
Kent A. Sermersheim, 57, Jasper, was eastbound on State Road 56 in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee when the 5:15 p.m. accident occurred east of County Road 750W, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
Sermersheim slowed for traffic in front of him and, when he did, his SUV was rear-ended by a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 series truck driven by Trevor C. Fiscus, 24, of Otwell, according to the sheriff’s department.
Fiscus told a deputy he had looked to the left for a moment and, when he looked back and saw the slowing vehicles, he braked but just could not stop in time.
Sermersheim complained of back pain and suffered a bruised shin. A family member transported him to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center to be checked in the emergency room, according to the sheriff’s department. A hospital spokeswoman said he was treated and released.
Total damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
A Uebelhor & Sons wrecker towed the Sermersheim Jeep because of disabling damage, according to a deputy.
