HUNTINGBURG — One passenger complained of chest pain after a three-vehicle accident Thursday evening south of Huntingburg.
James G. Bardwell, 81, Huntingburg, had stopped his northbound 2014 Ford F-150 in traffic to make a left turn when the 6:10 p.m. accident occurred at U.S. 231 and County Road 750S, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Charles H. Stetter, 71, Huntingburg, in a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, tried to go around the Bardwell Ford but struck it in the rear.
Clifford G. Payne, 62, Lewisport, Kentucky, who was southbound in a 2005 Ford Focus, saw the crash and veered to the right to avoid it.
He went into a driveway in the 7200 block of U.S. 231 and his car struck a highway guardrail on the west side of U.S. 231, according to the sheriff’s office. Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services was called to the scene after a passenger in the Payne vehicle complained of chest pain, according to a deputy.
Total damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000 and the Stetter Silverado was towed by a Uebelhor & Sons wrecker.
The Huntingburg Police Department also assisted.
