Series: Howling for Home

In her fictional account, Howling for Home, Joan Carris tries to create a story that an actual dog would tell, if only he could. She says, “Every minute that I worked on this book, I was a dog. Granted I was a dog who could type, but I examined every word, every idea from a dog’s point of view.”

Carris' 10-part series will be published each Tuesday in The Herald and updated chapter-by-chapter here as well. The series begins Tuesday, September 10 and concludes Tuesday, November 12.

Each of the 10 chapters includes an illustration, background information about animal care or the author’s purpose, a news connection and a link to a website that provides graphic organizers, multiple-choice comprehension questions and a teaching guide.

More information on the series, including links for teachers, can be found here.
