Ruby I. Gehlhausen, 93, Birdseye, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at River Pointe Health Campus in Evansville.
She was born in Warrick County on June 9, 1920, to James and Golda (Taylor) Lauderdale. She married Ambrose A. Gehlhausen on Nov. 11,1941, in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Siberia. He died Jan. 25, 2007.
Surviving are three daughters, Betty Glaz and husband Thomas of Columbia, S.C., Patricia Dean and husband Patrick of Evansville and Joan Gehlhausen of Birdseye; two sisters, Jane Casey of Sevierville, Tenn., and Geneva Shourd of Evansville; a brother, Loren Lauderdale of Evansville; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn J. Carson; a son, Gregory Gehlhausen; seven siblings; and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Gehlhausen and her husband owned and operated A&R Country Store in Birdseye and she was a former employee of Grant’s Department Store and Sears. She was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Siberia. Her hobbies included working crossword puzzles, crocheting and reading.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. CDT Friday in St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from1 to 7 p.m. CDT Thursday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. CDT Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand.
