TELL CITY — Indiana State Police from the Jasper post investigated the Saturday death of an Owensboro man at the Thyssenkrupp Waupaca Foundry at Tell City.
Police were called at 5:50 p.m. CDT after 45-year-old Bobby E. Felty, an onsite contractor working for Stewart Industrial, of Owensboro, had fallen and died.
A preliminary investigation revealed Felty was working inside the foundry in Cupola Furnace No. 2 when the decking he was standing on gave way, police said. Felty fell approximately 55 feet and landed on a concrete floor.
First responders working at the foundry responded immediately and Perry County Emergency Medical Services was dispatched; however, Felty was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Felty was not wearing any type of safety device at the time of the fall.
