Meeting: Jasper Zoning

The Jasper Board of Zoning Appeals met Wednesday and:

”¢ Approved a height variance for the Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools. Jasper softball coach Matt Pryor said a field house will be built near the softball fields located south of 19th Street and east of Jasper High School. The 120-by-60 building will be 28 feet tall, which is taller than the 16-foot limit set for accessory buildings in the city’s ordinance. The building will have four retractable pitching and batting cages inside and will replace the outdoor batting cage near the softball fields, he said. Pryor said construction will start at the end of the month or beginning of next month.

Ӣ Gave the Columbian Realty Corp. and the Jasper Knights of Columbus Council 1584 tentative approval to build within 13 feet of its property line behind the K. of C. Hall at 201 E. 30th St. The organization plans to construct a 26-by-30 storage building behind the facility, council President Ted Erny said. The board approved the variance as long as no utility easements are in the area, which Erny said he will check.

”¢ Approved Ryan Mathies’ height variance request to construct a 40-by-60 outbuilding on his property at 5999 W. Sycamore Lane. The front of the building will be 22 feet tall and the back section will be 25 feet tall, Mathies said. The board said the building’s height is not to exceed an average of 24 feet.
