From local sources

Huntingburg’s Water Department is conducting its hydrant flushing program beginning Monday, March 31. The flushing cycle will be south of 6th Street and west of Main Street from Monday, March 31, to Friday, April 4; north of 6th Street and east of Main Street from Monday, April 7, to Friday, April 11; south of Sixth Street and east of Main Street for Monday, April 14, to Friday, April 18, and north of Sixth Street and west of Main Street for Monday, April 21, through Friday, April 25.

Flushing is performed to improve water quality. It purges excess mineral sediment that may have accumulated from lines and low circulation points. Flushing also improves pressures and flow rates needed for fire protection, aids in maintaining proper valve and hydrant operation and helps to provide better overall water service to our customers.

Water will remain safe to drink, however, special care and attention is recommended, especially before doing laundry. Customers are advised to run cold water through their taps for five to seven minutes to clear any discoloration in the water that may adversely affect laundry items. The city is not responsible for the cleaning and/or replacement of those items.

Flushing times will typically be Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Locations may vary from day to day.
