Four locals to play for Bombers

Four former local prep standouts will play for this year’s Dubois County Bombers, whose roster includes 24 players for first-year manager Wes Fink. The local players are Wabash Valley College’s Spencer Sapp (Jasper) and Dane Giesler (Jasper) and the University of Evansville’s Kyle Schwinghammer (Forest Park). Also on the team is Pike Central graduate Clint Chestnut, who is currently at Olney Central Junior College.

“We are excited to have signed these four, along with three additional University of Evansville athletes, and one from (the) University of Southern Indiana that will help build a solid team to compete in the new league we are joining this season and gather a lot of fan interest,” Fink said in a statement.

Dubois County became the sixth team in the Ohio Valley Collegiate Wooden Bat League, which also includes the Owensboro Oilers, Fulton County Railroaders, Marion Bobcats, Madisonville Tradewater Pirates and Hoptown Hoppers. All five other squads are in western Kentucky.

The Bombers will play a 45-game schedule that includes 22 home games at League Stadium. All Sunday home games will begin at 6 p.m., with all other home contests slated to start at 7. Discounted tickets are available through the end of April by calling 683-3700. For more information, log on to www.dcbombers.com.
