Bombers eye solid finish

From Herald Staff Reports

It’s one game to go, and one game away from creeping back to .500 for the Dubois County Bombers.

The Bombers strolled past Madisonville 9-4 on Friday across the Ohio River, advancing their record to 19-20 with one regular-season game remaining. Dubois County will welcome Hoptown tonight for its finale at League Stadium as the contest will be a Fan Appreciation Night. The Ohio Valley League playoffs will begin Wednesday, with matchups still to be determined.

Dubois County assumed command Friday from the get-go, as Heritage Hills High School product Tirey Burch walked, stole second and later scored on an error as the Bombers posted a run in their first at-bat.

They steadily added from there, as Nick Gobert ripped an RBI double and scored, Burch later provided a sacrifice fly and Caleb Lonkard delivered a two-run triple. The comfortable margin even allowed Lonkard, primarily an infielder, to pitch the final inning as he fanned two in the frame.
